This weekend I heard a quote that caused me to pause a moment.\u00a0 I wrote it down.\u00a0 It was thought provoking.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been pondering it all weekend.\u00a0 \u201cIf you can\u2019t change your friends, it\u2019s time to change your friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

I am an RN of 25 years who shifted to health & wellness advocate.\u00a0 My career is health promotion and disease prevention.\u00a0 I encourage people to take action to clean up their diets and learn to fuel their bodies with quality nutrition.\u00a0 I educate people about nature and nurture.\u00a0 I introduce people to holistic and complimentary supplements and modalities which will enhance their health and wellness.\u00a0 My wish for everyone is the best physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health possible.\u00a0 Yet, I recognize I am considered an odd ball in my circle of friends and family.\u00a0 I am often teased and many poke fun at me for my beliefs, my suggestions and my lifestyle.\u00a0 I am sometimes disappointed when I cannot affect change with\/for them.\u00a0 I am aware some of my friends and family ignore me,\u00a0 thinking I am just sharing my opinions.\u00a0 However\u2026 I am schooled in nutrition.\u00a0 I have researched nutritional supplements and holistic methods.\u00a0 Thirty years ago my opinion was that food only needed to taste good!\u00a0 Fast forward through degree programs and research and I KNOW for certain, food is fuel!\u00a0 It is the major ingredient in our physical performance, our mental capabilities and our emotional balance.\u00a0 No Oreo or Dorito can provide that fuel and we are silly if we think it can or will!<\/p>\n

I know people in my circle who don\u2019t want to believe that food is the major player in allowing dis-ease or\u00a0 promoting good health.\u00a0 But change friends just because they don\u2019t think the same as I?\u00a0 Change friends because they smoke or drink or carry around an extra 50 pounds?\u00a0 Change friends because I can\u2019t influence them enough to want to enhance or improve their health?<\/p>\n

Twice I was over 200#.\u00a0 Once was while pregnant with twins.\u00a0 I have carried extra weight and yo-yo dieted most of my life.\u00a0 I understand the addiction to sugar because I lived it.\u00a0 I attended Carbohydrates Anonymous (which I think is now known as Food Addicts Anonymous).\u00a0 I was addicted to Diet Pepsi.\u00a0 I totally understand the issues!\u00a0 AND\u2026I am a nurse with over 25 years experience in ER, ICU, Home Care and Hospice.\u00a0 I have seen the affects of drug interactions, recreational drug use, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and poor food choices.\u00a0 We humans want to think food is about \u201ctastes good\u201d rather than \u201cfuels well\u201d.\u00a0 We want to ignore the connection to what we put in our physical gas tank affects our physical, mental and emotional performance.\u00a0 Egads\u2026 how do we not SEE the connection??\u00a0 For a long time, I didn’t!\u00a0 Yet, change my friends because they see things differently?\u00a0 Wouldn\u2019t that be like changing my friends because they have different religious or political beliefs?\u00a0 I\u2019m still pondering this\u2026.<\/p>\n

I asked Damn-Near-Perfect (my husband of nearly 32 years) for his thoughts.\u00a0 His words of wisdom\u2026.\u201dWhen you surround yourself with people who don\u2019t believe you, don\u2019t \u201cget\u201d you, and don\u2019t want to hear what you have to offer, it hurts your heart and makes you doubt your place on the planet.\u00a0 When you surround yourself with people who think like you do, you will never again doubt yourself and what you do.\u00a0 \u201d \u00a0 WOW.\u00a0 WOW.\u00a0 WOW.<\/p>\n

Deep Breath.\u00a0 A few tears.\u00a0 And now\u2026..<\/p>\n
